A suicidal man apparently leapt to his death from a backyard balcony 75 feet down a ravine Friday in San Juan Capistrano.
A family member called authorities to say the man had jumped from a balcony overlooking cliffs in the 26000 block of Via La Mirada about 11 a.m., according to Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Lane Lagaret.

Authorities will likely need a helicopter to retrieve the body, Lagaret said.
There was no word of a motive for the suicide, his identity or background.
