A 56-year-old man was scheduled to be arraigned Friday on charges of sexually assaulting two relatives, a boy and a girl, when they were about 6 or 7 years old in Lake Forest, a prosecutor said Thursday.

Robert Earl Corns was charged Aug. 4 with four counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and two counts of lewd acts on a child, all felonies, making him eligible for up to 90 years to life in prison.

Corns’ charges, however, are expected to be modified Friday so that he would face up to 60 years to life in prison if convicted at trial, said Deputy District Attorney Heidi Garrel.

Corns also faces sentencing enhancement allegations for multiple victims and substantial sexual conduct.

The alleged assaults happened in 2003, according to court records. The victims, who are brother and sister, came forward earlier this month, Garrel said.

It was unclear why the victims came forward now, she added.

Corns was being held on $1 million bail.
