Police Sunday were trying to unravel a bizarre mystery in which a driver suffered non-life threatening injuries — possibly in an officer-involved shooting — when he allegedly tried to run over Fountain Valley officers at least twice at the scene of a fatal traffic crash.

At 5:16 a.m. Saturday, officers were investigating a traffic crash that occurred at 11:34 p.m. Friday in the area of Magnolia Street and Mint  Avenue when a man in a black Dodge pickup truck drove at and through officers, the Fountain Valley Police Department reported.

The motorist then turned the vehicle around, drove at officers for a second time and an officer-involved shooting occurred, police said.

The suspect fled the scene and was eventually stopped by officers at Bushard Street, south of Edinger Avenue, in the city of Westminster, where he was arrested.

Police did not say whether the man was shot. The department asked anyone with information regarding the fatality crash to call them at (714) 593-4485.
