A gunman took a cash register filled with about $2,000 in cash from a Santa Ana liquor store early Wednesday morning following a struggle with the store’s clerk, police said.
The clerk was not injured during the robbery, which was reported at 12:20 a.m. at Valley Liquors at 2429 W. Edinger Ave., said Santa Ana police Cmdr. Matt Sorenson.
The clerk told police the suspect entered the store and pointed a small black handgun at him and demanded money.
A struggle ensued between the clerk and the suspect, Sorenson said.
The suspect made off with about $2,000 and an unknown amount of lottery tickets, Sorenson said.
A detailed description of the suspect was not immediately available.
