The body of a 24-year-old Rowland Heights resident with blunt force trauma injuries was found Monday on Brea Canyon Road near the southbound Orange (57) Freeway after he was involved in a rollover crash and then tried to gain entry to an occupied big rig, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The discovery of the body was made about 4:30 a.m. according to the CHP.

According to the CHP’s initial investigation, Javier Jose Velasquez Grimaldo was driving his 2004 Mazda 3 on the southbound 57 Freeway about 4 a.m. when for unknown reasons, the Mazda veered left just south of Brea Canyon Road, then hit the center divider and rolled over, finally coming to rest on the right shoulder.

About 10 minutes after the crash, Grimaldo tried to force his way into a Freightliner truck that was parked, but with the engine running, on Brea Canyon Road, according to the CHP. Fearing for his life, the trucker, 28-year-old Javier Adono of Apple Valley, got out of the truck and moved away from the rig, the CHP reported.

At some point, Grimaldo climbed onto the now moving truck and either fell or jumped from the vehicle, according to the CHP.

Brea Canyon Road was temporarily shut down south of Diamond Bar Boulevard for the investigation.

Anyone with information was asked to call the CHP’s Baldwin Park office at (626) 338-1164.
