A fire in the Angeles National Forest in the Altadena area has burned 10 acres of brush and was 85% contained Wednesday morning, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
The so-called Lowe Fire was reported about 3:30 p.m. Sunday near the Loma Alta and Chaney trails and was burning in light to medium brush with 120 firefighters currently assigned, the Forest Service said.
The Forest Service initially sent 160 firefighters to the scene and the Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatched 130 firefighters, along with two airplanes and four helicopters.
By 5 p.m. Sunday, crews had stopped the progress of the blaze, the Forest Service said.
The Millard Campground, Mt. Lowe Truck Trail, Chaney Trail, Sunset Ridge Trail and sections of the Altadena Crest Trail are closed but may reopen Wednesday.
The cause of the fire was under investigation. It came amid strong Santa Ana winds, abnormally high temperatures and what the National Weather Service calls “elevated fire danger.”
