The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Riverside County dropped two-tenths of a cent Tuesday for the second consecutive day following a five-day streak of increases totaling 3 cents.
The average price of $4.025 is 2.6 cents more than one week ago and 31.1 cents higher than one year ago but 14.4 cents less than one month ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It has increased 75.7 cents since the start of the year.
The increases at the pump were caused by a more than 40-cent per gallon increase in the wholesale price related to “breakdowns at the Chevron refinery in El Segundo and the Phillips 66 refinery in Wilmington,” said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager.
The increases were preceded by a 15-day streak of decreases totaling 16 cents.
