The Orange County Transportation Authority announced Monday it has won a $140 million state grant that will help expand the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway between the Santa Ana (5) and San Diego (405) freeways.
“We are very thankful to the (California Transportation Commission) and Caltrans for recognizing the importance of the SR-55 improvement project for Orange County and for the support of so many local elected officials and partners to help OCTA move forward with these vital improvements,” said OCTA Chairman Steve Jones.
The Route 55 Freeway improvement project will add a regular lane and a carpool lane in each direction between the Santa Ana and San Diego freeways.
The entire project is expected to cost $474 million and is expected to be completed by 2026.
