A quarter-acre fire broke out Monday evening in the Olinda Alpha Landfill in Brea.

The fire was reported at 9:10 p.m. in the area of 1942 Valencia Ave., according to Greg Barta of the Orange County Fire Authority, which issued a full response along with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The fire was confirmed to be in the landfill and was not threatening anything of value, the Brea Fire Department reported about 10:10 p.m., adding firefighters were expected to remain on the scene for several hours to extinguish the flames.

The fire had a slow rate of spread, Barta said.
