An outage knocked out power to more than 500 Imperial Irrigation District customers in the La Quinta area Monday, but most had their electricity restored within minutes.

The utility alerted the public shortly at noon Monday that 542 customers were affected by the outage and that a troubleshooter was en route to fix the issue.

“We’ve been able to restore power to 480 customers,” IID officials said in a statement at 12:51 p.m. “We’re still working to restore power to the remaining 61 customers in La Quinta.”

The cause of the outage and the expected time for restoration was not immediately known. Customers who were still without power were asked to check their main breaker or call the utility at 800-303-7756.

The IID provides electricity to more than 150,000 customers in parts of Riverside and San Diego counties, and all of Imperial County.
