A windblown dust advisory will be in effect until Sunday night in most of eastern Riverside County and the San Gorgonio Pass area, officials said Saturday.
The advisory will go into effect at 1 p.m. Saturday and is set to last until 11 p.m. Sunday, according to the South Coast Air Quality Management District. The impacted areas include Indio, Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Palm Desert, La Quinta and Coachella.
Gusty winds are expected to cause periods of elevated particle pollution levels and blowing dust that may result in air quality index levels that are unhealthy or worse at times, SCAQMD officials said.
The agency advised people to limit their exposure by remaining indoors with windows and doors closed and avoiding vigorous physical activity.
The SCAQMD is the regulatory agency responsible for improving air quality for large areas of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, including the Coachella Valley. Air quality alerts can be found at aqmd.gov.
