The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped four-tenths of a cent Saturday to $5.389, one day after remaining unchanged.

The average price is four-tenths of a cent more than one week ago, 41.4 cents more than one month ago, and 44.3 cents more than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It has dropped $1.105 since rising to a record $6.494 on Oct. 5, 2022.

The Orange County average price dropped eight-tenths of a cent to $5.333, its fourth decrease in five days following a 28-day streak of increases that boosted it to its highest amount since Oct. 24, 2023.

The Orange County average price is 1.1 cents less than one week ago, but 40 cents more than one month ago and 41.9 cents more than one year ago. It has dropped $1.126 since rising to a record $6.459 on Oct. 5, 2022.

The national average price dropped three-tenths of a cent to $3.676. It is 4.3 cents more than one week ago and 16.1 cents more than one month ago, but one cent less than one year ago. It has dropped $1.34 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.

“The situation overseas with war in both the Middle East and Ukraine has the oil market on edge,” said Andrew Gross, an AAA national public relations manager.

“But this is also the time of year we may see a bit of a lull in gasoline demand between the end of spring breaks and ahead of Memorial Day so the national average for gas may waffle a bit with small increases, some flat days, and even some price dips.”
