Southern California will get a little relief from the extreme heat Wednesday, with temperatures about 5-8 degrees lower in some areas.
An excessive heat warning for much of Los Angeles County expired at 8 p.m. Tuesday, but the region will still see hot weather throughout the week, with valley highs in the 90s and Lancaster and Palmdale both expected to reach triple digits Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
Downtown Los Angeles will reach a high of around 85 on Wednesday after hitting 92 on Tuesday. It will stay in that range through Saturday, when the forecast calls for a high of 88.
Orange County inland areas will mostly be in the mid-80s, with beach temperatures in the lower 70s throughout the Southland.
Health officials urge people to stay out of the sun if possible, avoid strenuous activity, and stay hydrated. Residents are also reminded to never leave children or pets inside vehicles for any time at all, as unattended vehicles can turn into death traps in mere minutes when temperatures rise.
