An investigation was continuing Thursday into a mother who was taken into custody after allegedly calling authorities from a Santa Ana hotel and confessing to killing her 11-year-old son, who was stabbed multiple times.
Saritha Ramaraju, 48, of Irvine, called police about 9:45 a.m. Wednesday from the La Quinta Inn at 2721 Hotel Terrace, near the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway, according to Santa Ana police Officer Natalie Garcia.
The mother reported she killed her son and then said she had taken some drugs, which prompted police to take her to a hospital, where she was treated and released and booked on suspicion of murder, Garcia said.
KCAL also reported the child was discovered on a bed, with a large kitchen knife in the room — and that, according to police, the mother showed very little emotion as she emerged from the hotel room.
Officers went inside the room and found a boy suffering from multiple stab wounds, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the woman’s last known residence was in Irvine and that she had been staying at the motel for the past couple of weeks.
