A 56-year-old man who was fatally struck by at least three vehicles on a busy Long Beach street was identified Monday.
The crash occurred at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday on Ocean Boulevard at Ninth Place, Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Jack Crabtree told City News Service.
A dark-colored sedan was being driven eastbound on Ocean Boulevard when it struck the pedestrian, who was in a marked crosswalk at the intersection with Falcon Avenue. The driver then fled, according to a Long Beach Police Department statement.
A 2016 BMW X3 going eastbound on Ocean Boulevard, then struck the downed pedestrian. The driver, a 59-year-old Tustin resident, pulled over immediately, realizing that he had been in a crash, police said.
A third vehicle, a dark-colored sedan also going eastbound on Ocean Boulevard, also struck the downed pedestrian and fled, police added.
“At this time speed and distracted driving are being considered as contributing factors in the collision involving the vehicles which fled the scene,” according to the police statement.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, Crabtree said.
He was identified Monday by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner as Kristen Advanis.
