Mike Trout became the 307th player in Major League Baseball history with 1,000 RBIs Sunday when he hit a two-run homer at Angel Stadium against the Seattle Mariners, four games after driving in his 999th run.
Trout struck out in his first two at-bats Sunday against right-hander Logan Gilbert, then hit Gilbert’s 1-0 four-seam fastball 443 feet into the batter’s eye in center field, driving in Kevin Newman. The blast provided the final runs in a four-run fifth inning that gave the Angels a 4-0 lead.
The two RBIs gave Trout 1,001 for his major league career and moved him to 306th place all-time, past Darryl Strawberry and one behind George Bell.
The home run was Trout’s 19th of the season and 397th of his career, breaking a tie with Joe Carter for 62nd all time, one behind Dale Murphy.
Trout was 1-for-14 with six strikeouts and four walks between RBIs.
He is the third player with 1,000 RBIs with the Angels, joining Garret Anderson (1,292) and Tim Salmon (1,016).
