The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped Thursday for the eighth consecutive day, decreasing 1.3 cents to $5.966.
The streak is the longest since a 13-day streak from Dec. 9-21, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. The average price has dropped 8.2 cents over the past eight days, including six-tenths of a cent on Wednesday.
The average price is 6.9 cents less than one week ago but 34.8 cents more than one month ago and $1.113 higher than one year ago. It is 52.8 cents less than the record $6.494 set on Oct. 5, 2022.
The Orange County average price dropped for the eighth time in nine days, decreasing 1.6 cents to $5.873. It dropped six consecutive days, rose six-tenths of a cent on Tuesday and resumed dropping on Wednesday.
The Orange County average price has dropped 10.6 cents over the past nine days, including 1.4 cents on Wednesday. It is 8.8 cents less than one week ago, but 30.2 cents more than one month ago and $1.088 higher than one year ago.
The Orange County average price is 58.6 cents less than the record $6.459 set on Oct. 5, 2022.
Prices were rising slightly in line with seasonal norms before the joint U.S./Israel attack on Iran on Feb. 28 sent oil prices higher and drastically accelerated increases at the gas pump. Prices began to fall slightly after the announcement of a ceasefire on April 7, though subsequent peace talks in Pakistan failed to produce a deal.
The national average price dropped for the sixth time in seven days, decreasing 1.5 cents to $4.093. It dropped three consecutive days, was unchanged on Monday and resumed falling on Tuesday. It has decreased 7.3 cents over the past seven days, including 1 cent on Wednesday.
The national average price is 37.5 cents more than one month ago and 92.4 cents higher than one year ago. It is 92.3 cents less than the record $5.016 set on June 14, 2022.
