A roughly half-mile stretch of Indian Canyon Drive in Palm Springs is expected to reopen early Wednesday morning following completion of prolonged electrical work.

The street has been closed from Garnet Avenue to Palm Springs Station Road since 7 a.m. Monday while Southern California Edison crews replace power poles along the corridor.

The street was supposed to reopen at 10 p.m. Monday before gusty winds pushed the time frame into Tuesday, and then into Wednesday.

Officials now say the street will open sometime between 1-3 a.m. Wednesday.

Motorists departing Interstate 10 were urged to use Highway 111 or Gene Autry Trail instead. Indian Canyon Drive north of Interstate 10, however, is not affected.
