A fire that erupted Wednesday on the roof of a mega warehouse along the boundary separating Moreno Valley and Riverside escalated into a two-alarm blaze Wednesday before it was knocked down.
The non-injury fire was reported at 2:25 p.m. atop the Burlington Distribution Center in the 21600 block of Cactus Avenue, near Meridian Parkway, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Fire officials said multiple engine crews from the county and city of Riverside converged on the location within a few minutes and encountered flames spreading on the roof.
The warehouse was evacuated prior to firefighters’ arrival.
Crews using aerial ladders stopped the fire’s spread on the roof at 2:45 p.m., but the flames entered a loading bay underneath, according to reports from the scene.
Shortly after 3 p.m., the fire within the interior of the facility was fully contained.
The extent of the damage was being assessed, and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
