More than 2,200 Imperial Irrigation District customers in Indio temporarily lost power Friday due to an outage of unknown origin, but while service was restored to most of them, about 133 customers may be without electricity until Friday evening.
The utility alerted the public at 12:37 a.m. that 2,253 customers were impacted by the outage, and crews were dispatched to resolve the issue.
According to the utility’s latest update, all but 133 customers in the area of Jefferson Street and Avenue 40 have had their power restored. IID estimated that power will not be restored to the remaining customers until around 8 p.m.
The cause of the outage was not released.
The IID serves electricity to more than 150,000 customers in parts of Riverside and San Diego counties, and all of Imperial County.
