A motorist who killed a 30-year-old bicyclist in Jurupa Valley is slated to be sentenced Monday in Riverside County Superior Court.
Andrew Scott Walters, 29, pleaded guilty in September to hit-and-run resulting in death and fleeing the scene of an accident.
Walters, who is free on a $75,000 bond, fatally struck Rigoberto Guzman in 2019.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, about 11 p.m. on April 21, 2019, Guzman was riding northbound on Van Buren Boulevard, approaching Limonite Avenue, when he was hit.
The victim was flung to the far east side of the roadway, where witnesses spotted him and called 911.
Paramedics reached the location minutes later and pronounced Guzman dead at the scene.
By the following day, detectives had gathered information indicating that the vehicle involved was parked in the 9000 block of 56th Street, just off of Van Buren, and they went to the residence.
Walters was taken into custody without incident at the property.
He had no documented prior felony or misdemeanor convictions in Riverside County.
