The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Riverside County dropped Saturday for the 40th consecutive day and 47th time in the past 48 days, decreasing two-tenths of a cent to $5.267, its lowest amount since March 6.
The average price has dropped 97.9 cents over the past 48 days, including 1.4 cents Friday, according to figures from the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. It has dropped $1.063 since rising to a record $6.33 on June 14.
The average price is 12.2 cents less than one week ago and 69.5 cents lower than one month ago, but 95.8 cents more than one year ago.
“We may see more relief at the pump as we move closer to the end of summer road trips, but a more significant decrease in demand for fuel will likely come after Labor Day weekend,” said Doug Shupe, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager.
The national average price dropped for the 60th consecutive day since rising to a record, decreasing 1.3 cents to $3.965. It has dropped $1.051 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14.
The national average price is 11.9 cents less than one week ago and 66.6 cents lower than one month ago, but 77.9 cents more than one year ago.
