A 47-year-old motorist was killed Friday in a two-vehicle collision just south of Corona.

Martin Padilla of Hemet was fatally injured about 4:45 a.m. at the intersection of Temescal Canyon and Leroy roads, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The agency said Padilla was at the wheel of one of the two sedans that impacted at the intersection. No other details were immediately available.

Corona Fire Department engine crews reached the location in minutes and found Padilla trapped inside his car. The victim was extricated a short time later and pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver suffered unspecified injuries, but it was unclear whether the party required hospitalization.

Temescal Canyon was completely shut down until shortly before 8 a.m., while the wreckage was cleared and a preliminary investigation was conducted.
