A motorist killed in a three-vehicle wreck that caused at least one other injury on Interstate 15 in Corona was identified Friday as a 68-year-old Banning man.

Wilfredo Lopez was fatally injured about 12:40 p.m. Thursday on southbound Interstate 15 just north of Cajalco Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The agency said that a pickup truck and two sedans impacted in the exit lane for the Cajalco off-ramp, causing Lopez’s vehicle to overturn, ejecting him onto the off-ramp.

No other details were available.

Witnesses stopped and rendered aid to the victim, performing CPR until Corona Fire Department paramedics reached the location less than 10 minutes later.

Fire personnel attempted resuscitative measures, but Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:01 p.m., according to the CHP.

Another victim was taken to Riverside Community Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The person’s status Friday could not be confirmed.

The CHP temporarily shut down all southbound lanes while wreckage was cleared. However, only the exit lane remained closed until 4 p.m. Thursday.

The investigation is ongoing.
