The SunLine Transit Agency Thursday is hosting the 16th annual Fill the Bus Holiday Food Drive at two locations in the Coachella Valley.

“Our Fill the Bus Food Drive has consistently received generous donations by those in our community, collecting many tons of food and other household essentials over the years,” STA CEO/General Manager Mona Babauta said in a statement.

Two buses were parked, one in front of the Walmart at 34-500 Monterey Ave. in Palm Desert and the other in front of the Ralphs at 1733 E. Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs, according to the agency. They were set to remain in place until 7 p.m.

Coachella Valley residents were encouraged to help fill the bus with non-perishable food items, turkeys and hams, assorted trimmings for holiday meals, new packaged toiletries, personal hygiene products, diapers, and other household products, agency officials said.

“Our staff, as well as volunteers from Well in the Desert and Martha’s Village & Kitchen, are looking forward to being onsite (today) to accept donations, greet donors, assist with drop-offs and thank the community for giving to others this holiday season,” Babauta said.

The event benefits Well in the Desert and Martha’s Village and Kitchen.
