Another chilly and potentially freezing night is anticipated in parts of Riverside County Monday evening and Tuesday morning, prompting warnings for residents to take precautions against the weather.

A freeze warning issued by the National Weather Service will be in effect from 1 to 9 a.m. Tuesday for Riverside County Valleys and the Inland Empire, including Riverside, Moreno Valley and Corona. Forecasters said temperatures could fall as low as 27 degrees, particularly in the area between Hemet and Lake Elsinore.

“Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing,” the NWS warned.

Widespread frost was anticipated between Hemet and Lake Elsinore, forecasters said.

“Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold,” the NWS advised. “To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.”

A frost advisory will be in place from 1 to 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Coachella Valley, with temperatures possibly falling to between 30 and 35 degrees.

The cool weather was expected to continue through Tuesday, but the gusting winds that have been impacting the area were expected to weaken. A slight warming trend was anticipated by midweek.

“Another disturbance sliding south across the state will graze us on Thursday with another chance of rain and snow showers, and gusty westerly winds over the coastal waters, mountains and deserts,” according to the NWS. “Aside from Thursday, fair, dry and cooler than average weather will prevail into the weekend.”
