Strong winds prompted the National Weather Service to issue a wind advisory in parts of Riverside County Sunday, while the South Coast Air Quality Management District issued an air quality alert.

The alerts were issued for areas of the Coachella Valley, San Gorgonio pass near Banning, Indio, Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Palm Desert and La Quinta until 8 p.m. Sunday. West winds were expected to range from 20 to 30 mph with gusts reaching up to 55 mph.

“In areas directly impacted by high levels of windblown dust, limit your exposure by remaining indoors with windows and doors closed and avoiding vigorous physical activity,” the NWS advised.

Sunny skies and warm temperatures were expected throughout the county this week. The Riverside metropolitan and Hemet areas will see temperatures ranging from the mid-70s to low 80s, according to the NWS.

Palm Springs will range from the high 80s to low 90s, reaching a high of about 96 by Saturday, forecasters said.
