A run of 17 decreases in 18 days to the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Riverside County totaling 21.3 cents ended Saturday with an increase of four-tenths of a cent to $4.707.

The average price dropped 13 consecutive days, rose one-tenth of a cent Monday and resumed increasing Tuesday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 2.6 cents less than one week ago, 34 cents lower than one month ago and 10.1 cents less than one year ago.

The average price has dropped $1.666 since rising to a record $6.373 on Oct. 5, 2022.

“Gas price decreases slowed down a bit this week as we enter the height of the summer driving season, but demand is still below what was expected, according to Oil Price Information Service,” said Doug Shupe, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager.

“A few Southern California gas stations are now charging less than $4 a gallon for regular unleaded fuel.”

The national average price dropped a half-cent to $3.451 after back-to-back increases totaling seven-tenths of a cent. It is one-tenth of a cent less than one week ago, 16 cents lower than one month ago and 13.3 cents less than one year ago.

The national average price has dropped $1.565 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
