Squeeze and Boy George will perform at Agua Caliente Resort Casino Friday.
The British entertainers are in the midst of a co-headlining United States tour, with Friday’s concert marking their fifth California show and seventh overall show of the summer.
Squeeze, a London-born pop rock and new wave band formed by vocalist Glenn Tilbrook and vocalist Chris Difford, has been active for 50 years. Picking up new additions along the way, the group has released 16 albums, 13 of which charted in the United Kingdom.
The band never achieved the same following with American audiences, as their first Top 40 single came almost a decade after their debut self-titled album. Nevertheless, some critics praised Squeeze’s early work, including their sophomore album, “Cool for Cats,” which Billboard highlighted as “hard-rocking” with “hard-edged power pop.”
Boy George was first widely known as the lead singer of Culture Club before going solo in 1987. His first solo album contained the UK No. 1 single “Everything I Own,” kick-starting a career that spans multiple decades and genres.
His accolades include two Grammy nominations and a Tony nomination for the score of the musical “Taboo.” Boy George was also notable for his secondary DJ career, cover of the Pet Shop Boys’ “The Crying Game,” public struggles with substance addiction, androgynous style and acts of protest against Margaret Thatcher-era anti-LGBTQ+ policies.
After taking the stage in the Coachella Valley, the performers are scheduled for a concert in Phoenix and three Texas shows over the next week.
