Riverside County will fund updated amenities for Hurkey Creek near Highway 74 in the San Jacinto Mountains, County Supervisor V. Manuel Perez announced Tuesday.

The Hurkey Creek Park Beautification Project will allocate funding for improved landscaping, restrooms and general maintenance, such as painted picnic tables and a new ice maker.

Perez, who proposed the project, cited childhood visits to the park as a factor that added personal significance to the initiative.

“Hurkey Creek was a place we went to for vacation as a kid with our tíos, tías and cousins,” Perez said. “For many folks, especially on the east side, we like going there, it’s only an hour drive up the 74. So I’m very proud of the fact that we are making this investment here and building up Hurkey Creek for more generations.”

Hurkey Creek is operated by the Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District.
