The average price of a gallon of self-service regular gasoline in Riverside County dropped seven-tenths of a cent Monday to $4.284, a day after dropping three-tenths of a cent.

The average price has dropped for nine straight days, and is 4.8 cents less than one week ago, 7 cents less than one month ago and 38.8 cents less than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It has dropped $2.089 since rising to a record $6.373 on Oct. 5, 2022.

The national average price was unchanged at $3.018, ending a streak of 11 days of decreases in a row. It is 2.9 cents less than one week ago, 7.2 cents less than one month ago and 14.9 cents less than one year ago. The national average price has dropped $1.998 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.

“The national average is tantalizingly close to falling below $3 a gallon, and it could happen in a few days,” AAA spokesperson Andrew Gross said on Thursday. “But 32 states already have an average below or well below $3. Hockley County, Texas appears to have the lowest county average, at $2.30.”
