Dru Hill will perform in Spotlight 29’s Showcase Showroom Friday.

The Baltimore R&B group, originally formed by Mark “Sisqó” Andrews, Tamir “Nokio” Ruffin,” Larry “Jazz” Anthony and James “Woody” Green, has been active for more than three decades. They are best known for hits such as “How Deep is Your Love,” “In My Bed” and “Never Make a Promise,” each of which climbed into the top 10 of the Billboard charts.

After back-to-back Platinum albums in the second half of the 90s, Dru Hill filed a lawsuit against their own label, Island Records, when an Island staff member allegedly struck the group’s manager with a pool cue. They settled and stayed on the label, which would eventually merge with Def Jam.

The original quartet never reached the same heights under Def Soul, their new label’s R&B division, and dealt with some departures over the following years. After hinting at a comeback tour during the COVID-19 pandemic, Sisqó, Nokio and Jazz are all part of the band’s current touring lineup.

Dru Hill has been particularly busy in 2024, playing 81 shows so far this year. After stopping in the Coachella Valley, the members will remain in California for in-state shows in Cerritos (Saturday) and Porterville (Sunday).
