Revolution Stage Company will hold a memorial celebration Monday for longtime RSC collaborator and supporter Jeanie Cunningham.
Cunningham, who died in November at age 68, had a lengthy career as a singer-songwriter, having toured internationally as a guitarist for Lionel Richie and as part of her own all-female band, The Cherries, according to the Palm Springs Post. She also wrote musicals and songs for product campaigns, in addition to being a producer at Cherokee Studios.
She was also involved in philanthropic causes throughout the Coachella Valley, from helping the unhoused to music education, according to the Post.
In RSC’s first season, Cunningham co-wrote and starred in the musical “Off the Street.” Gary Powers, a producing artistic director at RSC, called her a “sensational rock-and-roll goddess captivating everyone.”
“Everyone at the Revolution is … grateful to have worked with her, loved her and showcased her amazing talent,” Powers posted on Facebook.
The memorial event is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Monday, according to RSC organizers, who requested donations of non-perishable food items and contributions to Well of the Desert in lieu of flowers. It will also be livestreamed at youtube.com/@PalmSpringsPointofView.
