The South Coast Air Quality Management District issued a windblown dust advisory for areas of Riverside County Sunday.

The advisory was expected to be in effect from 6 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Wednesday in the areas of Banning, Cathedral City and Indio due to gusty winds of up to 50 mph in the area, lifting dust and soil.

Blowing dust may result in high particle pollution, reaching very unhealthy levels of air quality index categories, the South Coast AQMD stated.

Elevated levels of pollution were expected through early Wednesday morning, especially in the northwestern part of the valley.

The South Coast AQMD advised the public to limit their exposure by remaining indoors with windows and doors closed or seeking alternate shelter as well as avoiding vigorous physical activity.

Air quality can vary by hour and location depending on wind conditions. Current air quality is available at aqmd.gov/AQImap.
