A pedestrian was struck and seriously injured by a train Tuesday while walking or crossing tracks just east of downtown Riverside.
The man, whose identity was not disclosed, was hit just before 1 p.m. Tuesday along the Union Pacific Railroad line in the area of Vine and Third streets, according to the Riverside Fire Department.
The agency said an eastbound train hit the pedestrian and immediately stopped.
The exact circumstances were unclear.
Paramedics reached the location within minutes and discovered the victim with a significant leg injury, according to officials at the scene.
The pedestrian was reportedly taken to Riverside Community Hospital for treatment.
All train traffic was brought to a halt by Riverside police officers. Union Pacific Police Department officers were expected to handle the ensuing the investigation.
The tracks were slated to reopen my mid-afternoon.
