Four installations from this year’s Desert X exhibition in the Coachella Valley have been extended and will remain on view into the coming months, organizers announced Friday.
The fifth edition of Desert X, curated by artistic director Neville Wakefield and co-curator Kaitlin Garcia-Maestas, originally ran from March 8 through May 11 and featured works by artists from around the world.
Desert X is a contemporary art exhibition that takes place every two years in the Coachella Valley, including cities such as Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs and Rancho Mirage. It features large-scale, site-specific installations by international artists.
The installations that were extended are:
— Agnes Denes’ “The Living Pyramid,” on view at Sunnylands Center and Gardens, 37977 Bob Hope Drive in Rancho Mirage, through June 1;
— Kimsooja’s “To Breathe – Coachella Valley,” on view in Desert Hot Springs through June 1;
— Kapwani Kiwanga’s “Plotting Rest,” on display in Palm Springs through June 1; and
— Jose Dávila’s “The Act of Being Together,” viewable in Desert Hot Springs through Oct. 31.
Other works from prior editions on view indefinitely include Felipe Baeza’s 2021 installation “Finding Home in My Own Flesh,” Jeffrey Gibson “ALIVE” from 2017, Armando Lerma “Visit Us in the Shape of Clouds,” from Desert X 2019 and Lerma’s 2017 “La Fiesta en el Desierto.”
Desert X encourages visitors to follow the Leave No Trace guidelines by planning ahead, walking on designated paths, disposing of waste properly, respecting wildlife, not smoking and being considerate of other visitors.
Sunnylands Center and Gardens hours are from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
