Construction was set to begin Monday on a 60-seat patio in the shared courtyard between Kalura Trattoria and the Plaza Theatre in Palm Springs, part of a project to reopen the plaza by a Dec. 1 deadline.
City officials said fencing would begin going up Monday, with installation scheduled to be completed by Friday at 124 S. Palm Canyon Drive.
The work will feature a 20-foot-wide pathway from the theatre to the public sidewalk to serve as a new theatre entrance.
Intermittent southbound lane closures on South Palm Canyon Drive were expected through Friday, city officials said.
Construction is expected to wrap up in early August, according to the city.
In early May, Palm Springs officials reached a settlement of nearly $1 million with Grit Development regarding access rights to the patio.
The settlement referenced the design and installation of the patio outside Kalura, which Grit owns, and agreed to work together on the patio for safety reasons.
