A fire that has scorched 120 acres of brush along the border of Riverside and San Bernardino counties west of Norco was 40% contained Friday.
The so-called Euclid Fire broke out about 2:50 p.m. Wednesday in the area of the Corona (71) Expressway at Euclid Avenue in Chino Hills.
Riverside County Fire Department units were sent to assist the San Bernardino County and Chino Valley fire departments in battling the blaze.
On Thursday afternoon, California Highway Patrol officers shut down both sides of the Expressway at Euclid.
As of about 7 a.m. Friday, the fire was 40 percent contained, according to the RCFD.
“Crews made good progress overnight mopping up hot spots around the perimeter (and) adding additional containment lines,” according to a department update. “The specialized felling crews will be working in the eucalyptus grove to remove more fire-damaged trees and ensure safety in the area. Firefighters will be working in the dense build-up area and looking for any hot spots.”
Nearly 160 firefighters were assigned to the blaze, alone with 22 engines, six water tenders and four hand crews, CalFire reported.
There have been no reports of injuries or property damage.
