A range of recently completed renovations and upgrades at a Riverside County park just west of Menifee will be celebrated Saturday in a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by officials and area residents.

The event at Kabian Park, just off of Goetz Road and Kabian Park Drive, is slated for 10 a.m. Saturday, according to the county Regional Park & Open Space District.

The roughly 640-acre park, situated in an unincorporated area known as Quail Valley, has been shut down for months while work was underway on the grounds, and the ribbon-cutting will double as a “grand re-opening,” officials said.

“Investing in parks is investing in the health and well-being of our communities,” county Supervisor Jose Medina said. “The reopening of Kabian Park shows what can happen when we prioritize accessibility, safety and quality of life. This reserve has been a part of Riverside County for decades, and (now) we ensure its legacy continues for years to come.”

Medina is scheduled to be on hand for the event, along with other First Supervisorial District officials, park representatives and those from the surrounding community. Following remarks, a ranger will lead a guided tour of the renovated space.

Relying on $1.5 million drawn from federal American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 appropriations disbursed to the county, new perimeter fencing was installed around the park, as well as “beautified picnic shelters,” a new front gate, new playground features, concrete pathways and a public lavatory.

Additionally, decomposed granite was placed on marked trails, accompanied by other landscaping improvements, according to officials.

“Established in 1968, Kabian Park … serves as a vital ecological reserve and community recreation space,” according to the Regional Park & Open Space District. “With miles of trails and diverse wildlife, the park is a popular destination for hikers, equestrians and outdoor enthusiasts.”
