Cathedral City officials will consider approving a contract next week to appoint Andrew Firestine as the city’s next city manager, officials announced Wednesday.

The proposed appointment will be considered at the City Council meeting scheduled for Feb. 11.

Firestine would replace Charlie McClendon, who retired from the position in September 2025. Anne Ambrose has served as interim city manager during a nationwide search for a permanent replacement.

“The city council conducted an extensive and deliberate search to find the right leader for Cathedral City,” Mayor Raymond Gregory said.

“After evaluating candidates from across the country, it became clear that the best person for the job was already part of our team. Andy’s experience, vision and deep understanding of our community made him the clear choice.”

Firestine holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of San Diego and a master’s degree in city and regional planning from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.

He is also a member of the American Planning Association, the American Institute of Certified Planners and the International City/County Management Association.

If approved, Firestine is expected to assume the role Feb. 12, city officials said.

The City Council meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 11 at City Hall, located at 68-700 Avenida Lalo Guerrero.
