Volunteer members of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association Friday celebrated National Red Rose Day by distributing hundreds of long-stemmed red roses to residents, visitors and transit riders throughout Pasadena.
The annual tradition featured Tournament of Roses volunteers, known as “White Suiters,” handing out roses along Colorado Boulevard and in Old Pasadena as a gesture of appreciation and community spirit, according to the organization.
The festivities began with a Foothill Transit bus wrapped in images of red roses, with volunteers distributing flowers to riders and community members before continuing the celebration in Old Pasadena.
The red rose has long served as the signature symbol of both the Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl Game.
“Red Rose Day is one of our favorite traditions because it lets us connect directly with the community and brighten someone’s day with a simple gesture,” 2027 Tournament of Roses President Terry Madigan said in a statement. “A single rose can create a smile, start a conversation and make someone feel welcome.”
Tournament officials said the event reflects the organization’s commitment to community engagement while celebrating one of the most recognizable symbols associated with the annual New Year’s festivities.
The Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association is a volunteer organization that stages the annual Rose Parade and Rose Bowl Game, along with a variety of related events.
