Junior running back Javorius “Buck” Allen has decided to forgo his final year as a Trojan football player and jump to the NFL, the school announced Saturdaya.
Allen started making waves midway through the 2013 season, and ran for 100 yards or more in 13 of USC’s last 19 games.
He made the All-Pac-12 first team with an average all-purpose yardage of 149.8 yards per game this past season, and his streak of six 100-yard-plus games was the longest since Marcus Allen had 11 in a row in 1981, according to the USC sports information office.
“It was a tough decision for me,” Allen said in a statement distributed by the school. “I went home to Florida and talked it over with my family” before coming to a decision.
Allen was the second high-profile Trojan to turn pro this month. Last weekend, wide receiver Nelson Agholor announced he would enter the draft.
Coach Steve Sarkasian thanked Allen for his contribution to the USC football program, and said the student athlete was asked a lot of, and came through.
“He is not only a good football player, but a fine young man,” the coach said in a statement. “We are grateful for what he did at USC.”
