Rain in Los Angeles delayed the start of the Dodgers’ second home game of the season Tuesday night by 30 minutes.

The start time for the game against the San Diego Padres was pushed back from 7:10 p.m. to about 7:40 p.m.

Earlier, the National Weather Service advised fans attending the game to bring rain and cold weather gear as there would likely be some light rain falling.

A cold frontal system moved into Los Angeles County Tuesday afternoon bringing a few hours of often heavy rain to the Southland. By the time the game began, however, most of the precipitation had ended and clouds were beginning to break up. But temperatures dipped into the 50s at game time making for an unusually cold night for fans and the “Boys of Summer” on the field.

The Dodgers are in the midst of a team-record streak of 1,212 games without a rainout. The most recent of the 17 rainouts since Dodger Stadium opened in 1962 occurred on April 17, 2000.

The Dodgers had one rainout during the first 14 seasons at Dodger Stadium, which occurred on April 21, 1967. There were three rainouts in both 1976 and 1977, two in 1978, one each in 1982, 1983 and 1986, three in 1988 and one each in 1999 and 2000.

Nine of the rainouts have occurred in April, including each of the last five, four in September and two each in May and August. The Padres have been the scheduled opponent in six of the rainouts, the most of any team.

Ryan Hunter-Reay, the 2014 Indianapolis 500 winner, threw the ceremonial first pitch, 12 days before he is to race in the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. The national anthem will be performed by Elena Sogard, a niece of Steve Sax, a Dodger second baseman from 1981-88.

U.S. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Alejandro Salazar of Oxnard was to be honored as the Military Hero of the Game. Salazar served in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003 while assigned to the 1st Tank Battalion and served aboard the USS John C. Stennis.

Salazar is currently stationed with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Three in Port Hueneme.

The Dodgers were 6-3 winners in Monday’s season opener.
