The Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings will both wear special warmup jerseys for their preseason games Friday night and Tuesday, and they will be autographed and auctioned online, with proceeds benefiting charities.
The teams will wear red warmup jerseys for Friday night’s game at Honda Center, with proceeds benefiting the Ducks’ charity, Special Olympics Southern California.
The auctions for the jerseys to be worn tonight will be held from 5 p.m. today until 5 p.m. Saturday. Bids on the Ducks jerseys can be made by texting Ducks to 52182 or online at anaheimducks.com/auctions. Bids on Kings jerseys can be made by texting 52182 or online at lakings.com/auctions.
Proceeds from the auctions of the warmup jerseys worn before Tuesday’s game at Staples Center will benefit the Kings charity, the Hydrocephalus Association, which seeks to eliminate the challenges of hydrocephalus, which is characterized by the abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid within cavities in the brain.
About two in every 1,000 babies are born with hydrocephalus. It is also diagnosed in the senior population and among people who suffer moderate traumatic brain injuries.
There is no cure for hydrocephalus and the treatment requires brain surgery, according to Jennifer Pope, the Kings director of community relations and the Kings Care Foundation. Her son, Charlie, was diagnosed with hydrocephalus when he was six months old.
“We need to raise money for research to find a cure and improve treatment options,” Pope said.
