Members of the World Cup-winning U.S. Women’s National Team were named Thursday 2015 Sportswomen of the Year by the Los Angeles Sports Council.

Council officials noted that the soccer team’s lineup “included a significant Southern California presence,” including Shannon Boxx of Redondo Beach, Whitney Engen of Rolling Hills Estates, Alex Morgan of Diamond Bar, Christen Press of Palos Verdes Estates, Amy Rodriguez of Lake Forest and UCLA’s Lauren Holiday and Sydney Leroux.

U.S. head coach Jill Ellis is also a former head coach at UCLA.

The team will be honored at the 11th annual LA Sports Awards ceremony Feb. 25 at the Beverly Hilton.
