
The victory at Breakers Stadium at Palisades Tennis Club moves the Breakers (7-5) into a tie for first in the six-team league with the defending- champion Aviators, a half-match ahead of the New York Empire (7-6) and one match ahead of the Philadelphia Freedoms (6-6).
The Breakers, San Diego and Philadelphia all have two matches remaining, New York one. The top two finishers will play in the WTT Finals Saturday in Carlsbad.
Wickmayer defeated Naomi Broady, 5-2, in women’s singles to open the match, then teamed with Andreja Klepac for a 5-3 victory over Broady and Darija Jurak in women’s doubles.
Teymuraz Gabashvili and Ken Skupski defeated Rajeev Ram and Raven Klaasen, 5-3, in men’s doubles, increasing the Breakers lead to 15-8.
The Aviators (7-5) got their only victory when Jurak and Klaasen defeated Klepac and Skupski, 5-4, in mixed doubles.
Gabashvili closed the match with a 5-4 victory over Ram in men’s singles.
The Breakers will play host to the last-place Washington Kastles (4-8) Tuesday at Breakers Stadium at Palisades Tennis Club.
