Casey Wasserman, who spearheaded a successful bid to bring the Olympic games back to Los Angeles, was named Friday sports executive of the year by the Los Angeles Sports Council.
Wasserman led the committee that originally bid on the 2024 summer Olympics, but eventually landed the 2028 games in a deal that will see the 2024 games go to Paris. It will be the third time Los Angeles has hosted the Olympics.
The Sports Council said Wasserman’s role in the Olympic bid “provides the potential for him to massively alter the city’s sports landscape over the next 10 years.”
Wasserman will be honored during the 13th annual L.A. Sports Awards on Feb. 6 at the Beverly Hilton.
