Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is in Colorado Springs, Colorado for Saturday’s induction ceremony for the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Hall of Fame, her office announced.
The 12 individuals and two teams in the hall’s Class of 2025 includes four with ties to the Los Angeles area:
— Serena Williams, a four-time Olympic gold medalist who began playing tennis in Compton when she was 4 years old;
— Allyson Felix, the most decorated American track and field athlete in Olympic history with seven gold medals, three silver and one bronze after growing up near USC;
— the late volleyball star Flo Hyman, a graduate of Morningside High School in Inglewood; and
— Anita DeFrantz, a 1976 rowing silver medalist, vice president of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee, president of the LA84 Foundation from 1987 to 2015 and member of the International Olympic Committee since 1986.
Other inductees include Mike Krzyzewski, who coached the U.S. men’s basketball team to three gold medals.
Bass is scheduled to return to Los Angeles Sunday night.
