A stretch of Angeles Crest Highway reopened Monday after being closed for 10 months following damage from the Bridge Fire.
The 5.2 mile stretch of mountainous roadway, also known as State Route 2, between Big Pines Highway and the gate near Vincent Gulch in the Angeles National Forest had been closed since September for repairs, according to Caltrans.
The Bridge Fire damaged both the forest and roadway, requiring repairs to guardrails, slopes and drainage systems. Crews also installed erosion control measures and removed hazardous debris and burned trees, according to Caltrans.
A separate section of Angeles Crest Highway between Vincent Gulch and Islip Saddle remains closed as repairs continue on damage caused by winter storms in 2022-23. Caltrans said that portion is expected to reopen once work on two retaining walls and roadway reconstruction is complete, possibly by fall.
