An overturned semi- trailer involved in a multi-vehicle crash coupled with an oil spill shut down all lanes of a freeway connector road for several hours near Griffith Park Wednesday, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Officers from the CHP responded at approximately 11:30 p.m. Tuesday to the northbound Sacramento (5) Freeway, south of the westbound Ventura (134) Freeway where they found the jack-knifed semi and several vehicles involved in a collision, including a black Nissan Pathfinder, a white Toyota Camry and a black Honda Civic, CHP Officer Elizabeth Kravig told City News Service.

As a result of the overturned semi, fuel from the bigrig spilled onto the freeway and paramedics from Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene to treat the victims of the crash.

According to reports from the scene, LAFD paramedics took at least one person to hospital in an unknown condition and other parties were treated at the scene.

The cause of the collision is under investigation, Kravig said.

Traffic from the northbound 5 was diverted to the 134 Freeway, Kravig added.

Caltrans crews responded to the scene and began working to clean up the fuel spill, the CHP reported.

The crash closed all lanes of the northbound 5 until after 5 a.m., NBC 4 reported.
